Hairdressing program

At the Beauty School our Hairdresser program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to pursue a career in the exciting field of hairdressing. Students learn the fundamentals of hairdressing techniques, including shampooing, conditioning, blow-drying, curling, straightening, and upstyling. They also study hair and scalp anatomy, chemistry of hair products, customer service, sanitation and safety practices, and state regulations governing the beauty industry.

Hands-on training is a crucial component of hairdressing programs in Alaska. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills in a salon-like setting under the supervision of experienced instructors. This practical experience allows students to work with real clients, gain confidence, and refine their techniques.

Upon successful completion of a hairdressing program students are eligible to take the state licensing exam to become a licensed hairdresser. With the right training and dedication, graduates of our program can find employment in salons, spas, or even start their own hairdressing business.

Esthetics Program

At The Beauty School our Esthetics course provides comprehensive training in skincare, facial treatments, body treatments, makeup artistry, hair removal techniques, aromatherapy, and spa treatments. Students learn about skin analysis, product knowledge, client consultation, sanitation and hygiene practices, and state regulations governing the esthetics industry.

This program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to become a licensed esthetician and work in a variety of settings within the beauty and wellness industry. Hands-on training is a key component of our esthetics program. Students have the opportunity to practice their skills in a simulated spa environment under the guidance of experienced instructors. They work with real clients to perform facials, chemical peels, waxing, makeup applications, and other esthetic treatments, gaining valuable experience and building a professional portfolio.

Upon successful completion of a beauty school esthetics program in Alaska, students are eligible to take the state licensing exam to become a licensed esthetician. This license is required to practice as a professional esthetician in the state and ensures that practitioners have met the necessary standards of education and competency.

Graduates of this program can pursue opportunities in salons, spas, skincare clinics, medical spas, or even start their own esthetics business. With a strong foundation in esthetics education and training, individuals can embark on a fulfilling career helping clients look and feel their best.

Manicurist program

At The Beauty School, we offer a convenient and flexible 12-hour basic manicure course that allows you to study at your own pace. This self-study program is designed to be completed in just two days, making it ideal for busy individuals looking to pursue a career in nail care.

There are no tests required with the state board for this course. Once you have completed the program, you will have a test here on campus. After passing the test we will assist you in submitting your application to the state board, and upon approval, your license will be issued.

Our basic manicure course is a great opportunity to kickstart your career as a nail care professional in a short amount of time. Join us and take the first step towards achieving your goals in the exciting world of beauty and wellness.

12 hour Safety and Sanitation CourseA student who is enrolled in a course of manicuring must complete a curriculum that consists of at least 12 hours of instruction or training that includes the following subjects for the minimum number of hours specified.

Instructor Course

At The Beauty School, we offer an Instructor Program for licensed hairdressers, estheticians, barbers and manicurists who are passionate about teaching and sharing their expertise with aspiring beauty professionals. If you have ever considered a career as an instructor and have a love for inspiring and guiding students in the beauty industry, then becoming a licensed Instructor could be the perfect opportunity for you.

 Our Instructor Program is designed to help licensed beauty professionals transition into the role of an educator. As an Instructor, you will have the opportunity to impart your knowledge, skills, and industry experience to students who are just beginning their journey in the beauty field. You will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of beauty professionals and helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. The 600-hour Instructor class prepares the student to become a Hairdresser, Esthetician, Manicurist and Barber Instructor in the State of Alaska. This is a 17 week full time course.  A student enrolling in this course must be licensed in the State of Alaska and have practiced for a minimum of one year to be enrolled.

Massage Course

All courses are a combination of interactive lecture, self-study and discussion with hands-on skills practice for the entire program!

The Beauty School’s Massage program provides comprehensive training in the art and science of
massage therapy. We offer a structured program that is designed to equip students with the
knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to become licensed massage therapists and pursue
a rewarding career in the field of massage therapy.

Students will learn a variety of massage techniques, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage,
sports massage, reflexology, aromatherapy massage, and more. They will study anatomy, physiology,
kinesiology, and pathology to understand the human body and how it responds to touch and manipulation.
Students also learn about client assessment, treatment planning, massage contraindications, ethics,
communication skills, and business practices related to running a successful massage therapy practice.
Hands-on training is a fundamental component of our massage program. Students have the opportunity to
practice their massage techniques on fellow classmates, instructors, and clients in a supervised clinical
setting. This practical experience allows students to develop their skills, gain confidence, and refine their
techniques under the guidance of experienced professionals.

Our Massage program provides a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can
immerse themselves in the study of massage therapy and develop the skills needed to help others improve
their health and well-being through the power of touch. Graduates of massage school programs can find
employment in a variety of settings, including spas, wellness centers, chiropractic offices, physical
therapy clinics, and even start their own private practice.

The 625-hour Massage Program prepares the student to become a licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Alaska and consists of the following:

Anatomy, Kinesiology, Physiology and Pathology

162 hours
Students will study the structural systems of the human body and the principles of human physiology. The
design of this course is to assist the student in understanding body organization at different levels, the
importance of the body’s chemical constituents and processes, the organ systems involved with support
and movement, and how these organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis. It includes the study
of the skeletal, muscular, osteology and nervous systems. At least 40 hours will be spent in pathology to
include indications and contraindications.
Massage Theory and Practical Application

275 hours
This course introduces the student to the massage profession and the fundamentals of massage therapy
techniques. Students will examine the historical development of massage and study basic principles of
massage therapy including indications, contraindications, duration, and energy theory. Holistic and
self-care will be taught and discussed. Massage effects on pain and various body systems will be
discussed. Students are introduced to the major movements and concepts of massage therapy. Client
evaluation, draping, hygiene, and safe sanitary practices are introduced.
Clinical Practice

138 hours
Universal and standard precautions will be taught and will include Self-care, Body mechanics, Proper
draping, Record Keeping, Business Practices, Professional development and Medical terminology. In
preparation for the real-life experience of managing a massage business, students will interview clients,
discuss massage needs, perform therapeutic services and maintain SOAP notes on the services performed.
Students will also gain experience on the practical side of a massage therapy practice by making,
confirming, and canceling appointments, maintaining client files, and keeping records. Students receive no
compensation or fees for their work while completing these clinical graduation requirements.
Ethics and Laws

50 hours
This course introduces students to state massage law, rules, regulations and discusses ethical issues, rules
of conduct and professional responsibilities of massage therapists. Communication skills, personal
hygiene and health habits will be discussed. The operation of a massage enterprise will be explored
through the integration of basic business practices, marketing strategies, financial management, and record
keeping requirements. Supplemental business opportunities will be explored.
